Thank you for your interest in providing a home for one of our rescued pets. Please understand that our process does not operate on a first-come basis. Our goal is to match each pet to the best family for that pet. Because all our workers are volunteers with jobs and other responsibilities, we cannot respond to every application we receive. We follow up on the best and most complete applications. If we feel that your application matches a pet in our care, we will call or email you to arrange a home visit.
After the recent flooding this little 4-1/2 week old kitten was found by a kind lady in Sante Fe while picking up debris on her property. He was crying, hungry and in pain. She phoned one of our Volunteers asking if we could come and pick him up because he was injured.Paws’ Volunteer, Debbi, picked him up and immediately took him to our Veterinarians. Our veterinarians said the now infected cornea of his eye had been punctured most likely with barbed wire or a stick.
Having no choice because of the infection our vets took him in for what is a very difficult surgery on such a small kitten (weighing 1 pound). They immediately removed what was left of his eye and cleaned out the surrounding infected tissue. Our Vets were amazed at “What a little Trooper” he was before and after surgery. They said this was very painful for him and that he was a lucky little boy because the infection had not spread any further.
“Wink” is now back in his foster home with Debbi where he receives lots of love and great care.He is still on antibiotics but he is no longer on pain medication.Wink is playing with the other kitties and appears to be very happy and finally pain free. The surgery “just for the eye removal” was a little over $500.This did not include his stay and other care required while in the hospital. We are again in need of donations to help us pay for this expensive surgery.
Wink will be available for adoption as soon as he is neutered.
